More about your guide, Rob Frawley

Updated: May 20, 2019

Rob came to Tofino in 2014 from Pickering, Ontario which is, or was a small town just outside Toronto, ON nestled along the shoreline of Lake Ontario. He spent his summers growing up on Long Island, Rice Lake where his taste for fishing all began. He learned the basics of freshwater fishing through bass and walleye fishing but quickly turned his attention to big game species like Salmon and Musky once he learned how much fun it is to catch big fish on a consistent basis.

Rob played competitive hockey every winter as a kid so when his hockey career came to an end so to speak, he still wanted something to keep his competitive edge going. That's when he joined the Canadian Bass Anglers Federation (CBAF) and started fishing tournaments across Ontario. He's competed and placed in a number of different Bass, Walleye and Salmon derbies all across the province.

It was becoming difficult to sustain a decent living off the tournament scene so after obtaining his business marketing diploma from Durham College, he took a job at Lenbrook Industries, where he became a sales rep and marketing coordinator for a number of different brands they represented, the most popular being Motorola.

While this took up most of his time during the week, Rob still found himself fishing more than working, literally. Rob would spend the early hours of the morning fishing the first light bite, head to work for the day and then back on the water until sunset. He did this for almost 5 years before realizing that he would never truly be happy unless he was on the water doing water he loves, full time.

Fast forward to the summer of 2015 where he was hired by Clayoquot Ventures Tofino Fishing. He spent 4 seasons with them, eventually becoming head guide and general manager for the last 2.5 years he was there. Rob has gained a wealth of knowledge from his time there, has become close friends with a few big names from the industry and continues to shine in his dream job of being an owner/ operator of his own charter company.

Rob is extremely passionate about what he does and it shows. He spends time volunteering with the local hatchery, aiding in local salmon stock enhancement. He is the chairman of the Tofino Chapter for the West Coast Fishing Guides Association (WCFGA), a member of the Sport Fishing Institute (SFI), the Sport Fishing Advisory Committee (SFAC) and the Clayoquot Salmon Round Table.

Rob carries an easy going, positive attitude with him wherever he goes. He's gained a wealth of knowledge for the area and loves to share it with his guests. His goal on the water is simple. Have fun, be safe and to make sure you walk away having learned something new, and useful. Fishing results aside, one thing is guaranteed; you are bound to have a good time with Rob Frawley as your captain.

2019 Fishing Outlook

With all the recent news about Chinook Salmon closures across southern BC to protect early run Fraser River stocks, it’s easy to think that the Tofino and Ucluelet areas are apart of those closures. H
